The lovely old farms and cottages are a fine feature of the central section of the Heart of England Way when it passes through the midland county of Warwickshire.
This is a predominantly flat landscape, consisting of a patchwork of arable fields and pastures, scattered with farmsteads and villages. The older domestic buildings were made from materials available locally, so they are mainly black and white timber framed cottages and brick farmhouses. Early roofs were made from thatch or clay tiles but today they are more often slate.
Here are a few images of the handsome buildings that can be seen in Warwickshire along the route of the Heart of England Way.
