The three storey houses had well lit workshops on thetop floor. The workshops housed a steampowered Jacquard Loom for weaving ribbons, and allow home-workers to competewith ribbon produced in factories.

James Brindley designed almost all of the early canalsin England including the Coventry Canal. The Canal Basin was once a bustling place, busy with boats at thewharves loading and unloading materials for storage in the surroundingwarehouses.
